چکیده
The aim of this study was to investigate the pathogenic potential and antibiotic resistance 59 Escherichia coli isolates from ready-to-eat (RTE) street food (n = 31) drinking water 28) sold in city Maputo, Mozambique. were characterized by XbaI subtyping analysis via pulsed field gel electrophoresis. Multiplex PCRs performed targeting five virulence genes (stx, lt, st, astA, eae) three groups antibiotic-resistant genes, namely ß-lactamases (extended-spectrum ß-lactamase AmpC), tetracycline (tetA, tetB, tetM) sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim (sul1, sul2, sul3). stx gene, encoding Shiga/Vero (VT) toxin produced verotoxin-producing E. (VTEC), identified with similar frequency (5/31) (6/28). highest percentages resistant found for ß-lactams imipenem (35.5 39.3%, respectively) ampicillin (39.3 46.4%, respectively). Multidrug observed 31.3% isolates, being higher (45.5%) compared RTE (19.2%). Virulence detected 73% multidrug-resistant isolates. Concerning ESBL most frequent (57.7%) among β-lactamases while tetA (50%) non-β-lactamases.

Molecular characterization and antibiotic resistance of enterotoxigenic and entero-aggregative Escherichia coli isolated from raw milk and unpasteurized cheeses
The aim of this study was to determine the occurrence of enterotoxigenic and enteroaggregative Escherichia coli strains and antibiotic resistance of the isolates in raw milk and unpasteurized cheese. Out of 200 samples of raw milk and 50 samples of unpasteurized cheeses, 96 and 24 strains of E. coli were isolated, respectively. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to detec...
متن کاملMolecular Characterization and Antimicrobial Resistance of Uropathogenic Escherichia coli
Background:Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs) are the most common infectious diseases in childhood. The Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) strains account for as much as 80% of UTIs. Objective:From a clinical perspective, it is important to know which virulence factors and antibiotic resistance properties are present in UPEC strains in pediatrics. Therefore, this study was carried out...
متن کاملIsolation, Characterization and Antibiotic Resistance of Shiga Toxin-Producing Escherichia coli in Hamburger and Evolution of Virulence Genes stx1, stx2, eaeA and hly by Multiplex PCR
Background & Objectives: Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) O157:H7 have emerged as pathogens that can cause food-borne infections and severe and potentially fatal illnesses in humans. E.coli O157:H7 colonizes the digestive tract of cattle and is transmitted to humans by food and water. The objectives of this study were to characterize the prevalence of E.coli O157:H7 isolates in ham...
متن کاملPhylogenetic typing and molecular detection of virulence factors of avian pathogenic Escherichia coli isolated from colibacillosis cases in Japanese quail
Colibacillosis caused by avian pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC) is an economic threat to the poultry industry throughout the world. Some of the virulence genes may enhance the ability of E. coli isolates to grow in the tissues of broilers. The APEC strains are assigned to a few distinct phylogenetic groups. The purpose of the present study was to detect the virulence genes a...
متن کاملPrevalence, Antimicrobial Resistance, and Molecular Characterization of Escherichia coli Isolated from Food Contact Surfaces in Seafood Pre-Processing Plants (India)
Background: The survival of pathogens in biofilms poses a threat to food safety. The aim of this study was to determine prevalence, antimicrobial resistance, and molecular characterization of Escherichia coli strains. Methods: Swab samples (n=144) were collected from biofilm formed on food contact surfaces in seafood pre-processing plant in India. E. coli was isolated and identified using uid ...
